The legend of Mon-a-sha-sha is
haunting, tragic and beautiful. It is the story of a young Seneca bride
who perished, with her child, in the great cataract known today as the
Letchworth Gorge. Their spirits are said to live today in the elusive
white deer of Letchworth State Park. The park stretches for seventeen
miles from Castile to Portageville. The upper falls, near the historic
Glen Iris Restaurant and Inn often provide awesome double rainbows to
spectators while they view the majesty of the thundering waters as they
cascade down into the gorge. The lower falls are an incredible
hiking experience for those who don't mind the 127 or more steps back
up. Their are two public swimming pools, charcoal grills, and
playgrounds as well
Few locations rival the
majesty of "The Grand Canyon of the East." The Gorges of Letchworth
State Park are magnificent, and provide an excellent location for a
memorable balloon ride. the park is perfect for hiking, swimming,
picnicing, horseback riding, snowmobiling. We would be delighted to
arrange for a hot air balloon package for you (weather conditions are
always a factor of course) or we will pack a delightful picnic complete
with blanket and a bottle of bubbly. Call 585-384-5299 for more
information)

One really nice feature of your
trip to Letchworth State Park from the Villa Serendip. You don't have to
double back through the park to return to your
Finger Lakes Bed and Breakfast as the distance to each end of the
park is virtually the same from our inn.
